HILLSIDE CHURCH GROWTH GROUPS – Living is better together!

Hillside Church is committed to Growth Groups where we live life on life together centered on Jesus, believing that they provide a place where people are encouraged to be obedient to God’s call and the optimal environment for the development of genuine, caring relationships with one another that becomes a solid base for reaching out to still others.

Disciple-Making and “Growth Groups”

At Hillside, our vision is to make disciples who make disciples. We don’t believe that discipleship is just another program; rather, everything we do here is aimed at the goal of making disciples. A disciple is one who has made a commitment to trust Jesus as Lord and Savior, and has begun a lifelong journey of following Him and is becoming more and more like Him (Luke 6:40; Matthew 10:24-25; Romans 8:29). This journey centers on learning and obeying His Word, growing in our relationship with Him and His bride (the church), and serving Him and others in love.

We see Jesus Himself gave us the model of disciple-making involves relationships. Disciples are made in the environment of healthy community and relationships with one another. In these relationships we also serve one another and His church, which also helps us to grow as disciples. Such growth, then, happens in our worship and teaching gatherings, small groups, one-on-one settings, and even in our programs, but the process and goal stay very simple: helping each other to become more like Jesus.

Small groups (we call them “Growth Groups” at Hillside) were integral to disciple-making and church growth in the early church. They were vibrant communities characterized by their love for one another and their passion for reaching a lost world for Christ.

What is a “Growth Group”?   It is a group of 10 to 14 people who meet weekly to share their lives, study God’s Word, and support one another in prayer and caring for one another. A trained leader/facilitator and host lead each group. An average meeting lasts for an hour and a half, and may include a meal or light refreshments. A Growth Group (GG) is formatted to provide an environment for development of our love for God, love for one another and love for my neighbor.  (Luke 6:40)

When and Where do they Meet?  Growth Groups meet on various days or nights of the week, in locations throughout the Santa Clara Valley. Most evening GG meet from 7pm to 9pm. Times for daytime groups vary.

What is the Required Commitment?  Joining a GG requires a minimum 9 to 11 week commitment to participate in weekly meetings and do the homework ahead of time. Obviously, allowances are made for sickness, vacation, work conflicts, and other special circumstances. This commitment is a key to a strong GG. You will have the first three weeks to attend the group to make sure it’s a good fit for you.

How do I choose a GG?   When selecting a group, we strongly suggest you choose a group based on its leader-host team and station-in-life, rather than its location. For more information on open groups, please email kimcoutts@gmail.com.
